About Us

Midlands Eye Care Limited (MEC) was founded in 2006 by consultant eye surgeons at Queen’s Hospital Burton who wanted to offer a community-based ophthalmic and optometric service.

A semi-derelict property at 59 New Street in the centre of Burton on Trent was purchased and transformed into a modern bespoke eye clinic and treatment centre.

In 2020 the ownership of Midlands Eye Care was transferred to the Association of Health Professions in Ophthalmology (AHPO), an educational charity and Independent Training Organisation that delivers apprenticeships and BTEC Diplomas for eyecare support staff.

Midlands Eye Care is now a not-for-profit Community Interest Company and is a subsidiary company of AHPO. It continues to provide the same clinical and optometric services as before, but any profits are gift aided to AHPO and used for the development of education and training for eyecare staff.
